Comprehensive out-of-the-box functions

The main advantage for a company using a Content Management System must surely be that it maintains a strict division between website design and site structure. This makes it possible to load new texts, images and files, even of widely varying sizes, into a pre-designed layout. Knowledge of HTML, programming or web design is no longer necessary, whether for administering or editing the site.

Beyond this, TYPO3 is the only Open Source Enterprise Web Content Management System to offer a host of other advantages to make your workload easier and more effective within a critical business environment.

Manage and edit websites, independent of which platform they are running on

All you need to run, administer and edit your websites, upload new content, change design templates etc., is an active internet connection and a browser, regardless of which operating system you are running on.

A clear "tree" structure

The tree structure of the TYPO3 Backend is very similar to the file management and directory structure familiar from most operating systems. This structure gives a clear overview of the complete hierarchy of all the websites in an installation. Further folders, for storing images or PDFs etc., can be created and added at will

Unique IDs

When constructing a website in TYPO3, a unique identification number – the Page ID – is generated and written into the database being used. This ID enables precise page choice and referencing. But content elements, too, are indicated with an ID, which in turn is then tied to the relevant page ID. Thus both TYPO3 and the user always know exactly where any particular content is to be found.

Rich Text Editor (RTE)

RTE is a WYSIWYG (what-you-see-is-what-you-get) Editor that enables the user to format text, add images, set internal or external links and is comparable with most word-processing applications.

Unlimited "versioning"

In addition, TYPO3 offers an unlimited versioning function that not only permits an editor to work on a soon-to-be released version of a page, while site visitors still view the former version, but also lets different versions of a page be "time released" for viewing. Furthermore, the integrated "version controller" highlights changes from one version to the next in color, so that editors can immediately review them.

Frontend-Editing

Next to editing of page content in the backend, TYPO3 provides the possibility editing direct within the frontend as soon as you are logged in as a user.

Define different access rights and user groups

Usually several people are involved in the preparations to launch a large and complex website. TYPO3 allows the granting of different access rights to different editors. This means that each co-worker or team has access to exactly the pages or content they are qualified to work on. At the same time, user groups can also be defined, such as "editors" or "proof-readers". This means that the editors are purely responsible for content creation, while the readers' task is text-proofing and correction.

As many layouts and menus as needed

With TYPO3 you have an almost unlimited choice of layout templates. A single website can have different areas of the site. That way you can use different design approaches to better target particular types of customer.

Automatically maintains design and creates menus

New text content is fitted automatically into the existing pre-layout. When creating completely new pages, TYPO3 automatically gives them a new ID number, which is then used as the basis for integrating the new content into the existing menu concept.

Integrated image optimization

With its unique "Magic Image" technology, TYPO3 enables even inexperienced users to integrate images into their content. With TYPO3, incorrectly inserted photos are a thing of the past. Inadequately scaled images are automatically resized by "Magic Image". An automatic distortion correction is applied to create a new and correctly scaled copy of the original photo which is then uploaded online.

Optimized source code and UTF-8 support

When creating a web page, TYPO3 automatically writes and optimizes error-free HTML or XHTML code to function on any web browser. And alongside western scripts, TYPO3 also supports all other scripts available in the UTF-8-Norm, whether Cyrillic, Japanese, mandarin Chinese or others

Multi-lingual

Not only does TYPO3 currently support more than 30 languages in the Backend and as many as needed in the Frontend, but it is also completely oriented towards the construction and organization of multi-lingual sites. Administrators can either localize for any number of languages within the existent original language page tree or they can choose a multi-tree concept with several language branches. Either way, TYPO3 is the system of choice for anyone seeking an uncluttered, easy-to-use and efficient management of their global web presence.

Multiple site management

The TYPO3 core architecture is designed to handle an unlimited number of individually independent websites within the same single installation. Business solutions with several Internet, Intranet, Extranet and Micro-Sites can all be run from one and the same system. Several small sites can even be hosted, for example, by an ISP from the same databank. TYPO3 is highly useful, while making good business sense at a drastically reduced cost in running and maintenance.
