We back Open Source entirely!

Since our company was founded in 1999 we follow a simple rule: Open Source. All the solutions we develop are built on Open Source systems: TYPO3, Zend Framework, FLOW3 and Magento Commerce. Open Source software offers distinct advantages; something not only we, but large numbers of important corporations and organizations have recognized.

Open Source means: freely available, charge-free useable (no license) and infinitely flexible program code. Open Source software undergoes constant development from a worldwide community of user-operators in an, as far as possible, Open Source environment. For companies and organizations, this means:

Neither a once-off nor annual license fees to pay, whether for the application itself, or for its software environment (Operating system, Server, Database, Programming language) – which enables more of your budget to go to adaptation and support;

Access to an enormous global knowledge pool – which means: maximum, future-proof quality with maximum functionality, shortest development times and update cycles;

Flexibility: almost unlimited enlargement, scalability and integration possibilities;

Independence from service providers.

In 2002 AOE media was among the first IT service providers to introduce the Open Source Content Management System (CMS) TYPO3 to its clients. History proved us right: TYPO3, with over a million installations, is currently the world's most widely used CMS, and the worldwide TYPO3 Community, which unites 70,000 developers, grows day by day. Meanwhile more and more global corporations, such as Cisco Systems, Sony BMG and Deutsche Telekom, rely on TYPO3 (and on AOE media as their Open Source solutions provider).

Practical engagement for Open Source and TYPO3

Because we are convinced by Open Source, we engage as a sponsor in the Open Source movement – both financially and with our manpower. The ones who profit most from this are our customers: they get current technical and methodological know-how directly from the source.

Some of our activities:

We are one of the most active members of the TYPO3 Community and continue enthusiastically to develop TYPO3. For example, we have made more than 50 TYPO3 extensions available to the Community;
We are part of the Community, working in close cooperation with the TYPO3 Association, responsible for fundraising and diverse Core Extensions;
We actively support the development of Version 5 of TYPO3;
We sponsor the development of the new PHP-Frameworks, FLOW3, and are already using it in internal projects;
Via our TYPO3 Blog for developers, we encourage professional exchange among TYPO3 experts;
We support, financially and with services, other Open Source tools used by AOE media (a selection of projects we support financially can be found in the header of this page).
