TYPO3 - the only complete, Enterprise Class, Open Source Web CMS

TYPO3 is a license-free Open Source Web Content Management System for online use on the Web, as well as for Intranets and Extranets. Its remarkable flexibility and unlimited scalability, together with its ready-to-roll interfaces, functions and modules, make TYPO3 particulary suitable for business use in critically competitive commercial environments.

TYPO3, as it was first presented in 2000 by its inventor, Danish programmer Kasper Skårhøj, was originally intended purely as a development tool for medium to large websites. After it was published under the free GPL software license, an active community of enthusiastic developers quickly began to gather around Skårhøj. During the years that followed, TYPO3 was further developed into a mature, stable and limitlessly extendable Content Management System.

TYPO3 is primarily based on the server language PHP, and mainly makes use of MySQL for its database connectivity - although PostgreSQL or Oracle can also be used. By the judicious insertion of a variety of different plug-in or modular extensions, the TYPO3 basic program – the T3 Core – can be enlarged to include a wide array of new functions or even complete applications. Currently more than 3.900 extensions are available, covering almost every conceivable option. The particular requirements of specific extensions can be developed in PHP by any good programmer.

"TYPO3 is a truly remarkable Open Source Software: in contrast to other available license-free or commercial Content Management Systems, T3 is not limited to Web use alone. As the only real Enterprise Web CMS in the Open Source field, it offers unlimited connectivity possibilities to integrate with a company's existing software architecture and can thus be productively, profitably and competitively incorporated into a firm’s commercial processes!" (Aldo Bermudez, Website Globalization Manager Cisco Webex, Santa Clara, USA)

With TYPO3, companies have at their fingertips a server-based Content Management System (CMS) which, while operating over any standard Internet browser, enables the creation, editing, processing, archiving and administration of texts, documents and files. Particularly valuable is that it allows a content editor, without any particular HTML or programming know-how, to use and maintain the system, as well as post new content or redesign layouts and templates.

Unlike many CMS's available on the market, TYPO3 is a mature Enterprise Web Content Management System. In a departure from "normal" CMS, TYPO3 also offers, in addition to the management of complex websites, connections to a variety of other software systems within the existent software architecture. Thus with TYPO3 product logistics systems or pre-print can be connected, in order to integrate with other media neutral content within commercial or business-relevant processes.
