The need to feed a database behind your own online search with pre-structured information is now a thing of the past: the Open Source Systems firm AOE media today launches a new search solution based on the Apache Solr search engine. The new search, called “Searchperience”, runs in the cloud and thus does not require the user to maintain either a CSV or an XML database in order to display facets or categories.
Semantic crawling
AOE media’s proprietary crawler searches the various sources, such as shop data or forum posts, as well as any number of additional websites. Relevant content – texts, links or images – are then gathered into a unified search result. In the process the crawler analyses the content semantically, automatically recognizing particular types of information, such as product data (size, price etc.), which it extracts and presents accordingly.
Comprehensive range of functions, including image search
The error tolerant, “fuzzy” search method meets all modern criteria including Auto-Suggest, Filter, Facets, pre-defined search results and image analysis. The latter enables searches of images for faces or predominant colors. “To our knowledge we are the first and only company to offer a search service with such a comprehensive range of functions that requires no pre-structured data from the customer”, says Daniel Pötzinger, Director of Development at AOE media. “However”, adds Pötzinger, “if the client already has CSV or XML data, of course we can also support these.”
Scalable search for Global Players
With its new Search as a Service solution, AOE media is primarily targeting medium to large online shops and companies in the enterprise segment. Thus the new solution is scaled to handle simultaneous, heavy-traffic demand and search millions of indexed pages and database entries: each individual Solr-Index can process 1,000 search queries a second, allowing for limitless upward scalability if required.
“Searchperience” is available in three versions: Basic, Professional and Enterprise. The monthly user subscription depends on the number of searches carried out, starting at 990 € per month for the basic model.
