Compass Group

Compass Group is Germany's leading provider of catering services. Together with its subsidiaries it offers professional catering to companies, hospitals and homes for the elderly, care facilities, schools, arenas, stadia, as well as for exclusive events. The Compass Group Deutschland GmbH web presence was created in cooperation with the Gerasch Communication agency. The entire restructuring of Compass Group's web platforms, including those of its subsidiaries, was carried out using TYPO3 as central Web Content Management System. AOE media was entrusted with this comprehensive conversion.

For the Compass Group's online platform a variety of new XHTML-compatible TYPO3 templates were needed to work within the context of visual worlds created by the web design team at Gerasch Communication, Darmstadt. In addition, the concept envisaged that for every subsidiary firm, navigable from the central bar, an individual color scheme would be defined. To this end the templates had to be adjusted, so that the entire content could be migrated into the TYPO3 CMS and entirely W3C standards-compliant web pages be created.

Furthermore, this project also brought with it the need for some custom adapted extensions, such as one to allow the Compass editors to deliver their newsletter directly out of the TYPO3 Backend module. In addition, several form fields: for potential customers to order the newsletter, for journalists to order the mail service, for initiative applications, as well as a general contact form for questions and suggestions. All this had to be integrated into the site and adapted to its database management.

The newly-implemented, central job market lets potential employees combine the fields of an extended form as they like, in order to find the job of their choice in the location of their choice. Suitable offers are drawn up in a list which can be clicked for pre-print in a separate window. Similarly, the tt_news extension that presents news bulletins and press articles has also been adapted to show the items in an excerpted list form with links that anyone interested can follow to the complete body text. Two teaser texts from this list are presented in a special box on the splash page to attract attention to up to the minute news.

Thus with TYPO3 CMS, and using both standard and customized extensions, a modern web presence has been created that with intelligent structure, attractive but low-key design and thoughtfully integrated technical functions, discreetly ushers the visitor through the wealth of information made available by Compass Group. Simultaneously, via subtly integrated elements of design and structure, the website links seamlessly to the other five independent platforms of the Compass Group's subsidiary companies.
