Hear „SOURCE“ - think Merchandising. The online shop offers advertising material, promotional articles and giveaways in a large number of categories and sub-categories. Just the category „Office & Writing Utensils“ alone contains several hundred articles in 52 sub-categories, ranging from ball pens up to wall calendars. Source sells more than 40,000 articles online. When the time came to switch from the old shop system developed in-house to a more scalable, future-proof solution, SOURCE selected Magento Commerce, tailor-made by the open source web specialist AOE media.

Because of the extensive product portfolio SOURCE offers, a shop solution with high performance and a powerful search option was needed, connected to the ERP software “abas”. Source uses Magento in the free-of-charge, community version as a mature, flexible and intelligently developed online shop system which is comparable to other commercial, licensed solutions. AOE media implemented Magento, developed the ERP-interface between the new shop and abas and added a customized full-text search feature based on AOE media’s“Searchperience” to the solution. The powerful commerce search provides up-to-date criteria like auto suggest and several filters like category, size, color, material, price and more may be determined with the help of buttons, text links or sliders.

Furthermore, AOE media added a product configurator to the new SOURCE web shop:  Here, promotional articles may not only be chosen in color and quantity, customers may also control where to place the promotional imprint on the article. Different printing processes, engraving and embroidery are possible. For customers, unit and total price, with components like product price and advertising cost, are evident at a glance.

Shop visitors will enjoy the color switcher developed by AOE media: The articles change color at the click of a mouse, when there is more than one color to choose from; this is already the case in the overview within a category of articles, no need to go into the detailed view.
