MSF Australia

AOE media supports the Australian section of Doctors without Borders with the relaunch of its web presence. Via a particularly intelligent search function, using keywords, cataloging and several specially programmed AOE media-developed TYPO3 extensions, it is also possible, in addition to sought documents or news items, to look for and display information as far as it relates to particular themes.

The Non-Profit-Organization "Médicins Sans Frontières (MSF)", "Doctors without Borders" provides medical emergency help in conflict and crisis zones or after natural catastrophes, for people in direst need, regardless of their origin, faith or political persuasion. MSF is neutral, non-partisan and free from bureaucratic restrictions. In order to maintain this precious independence, MSF sources over 50% of its financing from private donations. In order to better support the important humanitarian work of MSF staff and volunteers in Australia and around the world, the re-launch contains comprehensive information designed to interest potential donors. Particular challenges of the project: visitors should have the option to gather information quickly on any of MSF Australia’s particular actions or subject fields.

The site, which only went online recently, draws particular attention with the intelligent way that information on the work of MSF Australia is displayed. Via a sophisticated search engine using keywords, cataloging and several specially developed TYPO3 extensions it is also possible, in addition to sought documents or news items, to look for and display information as far as it relates to themes. It is of no importance from what part of the entire TYPO3 platform the information is sourced, or what form the initial content takes.

If a potential donor looks for information on a specific area of deployment, for example the “Sudan”, he or she will not only automatically receive a profile of the country, but also all relevant articles for each theme. The format of the original information is of no importance, nor from where on the site it was sourced. With the help of videos, articles from staff in the field or news stories, an educated impression of MSF Australia’s work in that country can quickly be gathered. We are currently working with the second phase of the platform, which will include a payment function for donations as well as an interactive application form for potential personnel.

In order to actively support the highly important communications work of MSF’s Australian section and through this work its vital humanitarian mission, we decided to carry 50% of the cost of this web project ourselves.
