Cisco WebEx WebOffice

In the context of the Cisco WebEx re-launch, the little daughter WebExOne with its WebOffice site was also converted to TYPO3 as its new Web Content Management System. WebExOne has made the needs of small- to medium-sized businesses its specialty and is the world leader in online collaboration solutions for this bracket. Just had been the case with the WebEx portal, WebOffice also formerly had a static structure, and content changes could only be laboriously entered by hand using Dreamweaver.

However, for marketing reasons new content is continually needed for publicity actions, Flash-based guided demonstration tours or new case studies that must be embedded into the site in the shortest time, such a long-winded procedure is definitely too awkward. This was why the WebExOne people decided to introduce TYPO3 as their Web Content Management System. Since WebOffice is a part of WebEx, it was required that the WebOffice content could also be administered from the same WebEx portal Backend. The design and content of both sites, WebOffice and WebEx, were therefore adapted and synchronized to one another.

A comprehensive templating of the existing content of the WebOffice site was necessary prior to migrating into TYPO3. As with the WebEx portal, here too the integrated Flash content is completely accessible for editing and localization. The WebOffice editors can, for example, set the Flash banner via the back office to run in the appropriate local language on a timed basis. Simultaneously the sophisticated Flash elements are called up via the JavaScript Library "swfobject" in TYPO3 and then placed on the appropriate page. Using predefined ID-numbers in XML files, the Flash animations can be called up to run different campaigns on the individual web pages.

Not only the Flash elements, but also every graphic element on the WebOffice pages, such as buttons or banners, can be identified by their individual ID numbers, called up and/or edited. Furthermore, when converting the site, care was taken to ensure that all links included are also localizable. Thus the TYPO3 conversion for WebOffice includes simple-to-use options that aid in the site's ongoing development and the improvement of its services … and all without paying a cent in licensing fees.
